soooo... here i am, new to the wonderful world of blogs... not sure what all to say, but everyone seems to have one, so here goes nothing! :) this particular morning finds me officially starting my first day on a new job - a dream job i might add! i'm still working for nasa but no longer as an aerospace engineer, technical manager, program planning and control analyst, or any of a number of other hats i've worn over the course of my nearly (come september) thirty (yes, that's 30 - where has the time gone?) years with the agency. nosirree bob, this morning i am a full-time, professional artist! how cool is that?! my job duties officially require me to be creative! ...to draw all day long - and get paid for it! ...and the kicker is, i get to do this wonderful job in the comfort of my own home - i get to look out the window out over the water, hear the ducks nattering away outside and my softly playing jazz inside, imbibe a german beer or some wine as the mood strikes, and create create create! my nasa colleagues hope to use my images in a variety of ways: as illustrations for the official international space station calendar, as backdrops for astronaut photos, as posters for nasa displays/kiosks in airports, as cover illustrations for space station publications, and/or as backdrop illustrations for title/credits slides in space station videos produced for nasa select tv broadcasts. i can still hardly believe it - and i am beyond grateful to my new managers for this dream-come-true opportunity. the only down-side at all is one i can easily live with: since the images i create for nasa are automatically nasa property, i can show them as part of my art portfolio but i cannot offer them - or products bearing them - for sale. not a problem; my salary is compensation enough! :) well, it's back to work (heheheh) for me - just thought i'd open my blog with this bit of good news... have a wonderful day!
